Porn Block

A quick piece inspired by the UK government’s ‘porn block’ law.

On April 1st the UK government plans to bring into effect a blanket block on all mainstream pornography websites, in an attempt to protect children from ‘accidentally stumbling across’ porn online. For adults to access porn sites they will now need to verify themselves using their name, an email address, date of birth, and potentially credit card information or driving license. It’s been described by Wired as ‘One of the worst ideas ever’ as it may push people to resort to fringe malware-infested websites. Not to mention it will create an enormous hackable database of everybody’s porn preferences, complete with person details!

Update: As of October 2019 the UK government has abandoned it’s plan for a ‘porn block law’.
